Now That’s What I Call Music is a compilation album series originating from the United Kingdom, released on vinyl, cassette and Compact Disc (CD). The albums are compiled by the eponymous corporation, NOW Music. The series began in 1983 with Now That’s What I Call Music, and has release over 100 titles through several different incarnations including the UK, US, and various other countries around the world.[1]
The albums generally feature contemporary pop and rock hits, although some editions have featured disco, R&B, and country songs as well. The series began in the UK with Now That’s What I Call Music! on vinyl and cassette tape, released on 28 November 1983. The double album, which was also available on cassette, contained 32 tracks and cost ÂŁ8.99. This first UK edition of the Now! series included two tracks which were unavailable in most other countries: “Only for Love” by Cliff Richard and “An American Trilogy” by Elvis Presley.[2]

The US version of Now That’s What I Call Music debuted on 18 November 2003 with its inaugural release, Now That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 1.[3][4] The first volume in this series borrowed heavily from the last three UK Now! albums at the time, featuring mostly recent hits from late 2002 and early 2003.

The most recent release in the UK series, was released on 2 December 2013.[5] The first CD pressings of this album incorrectly listed the published date as 3 December 2013 on the inlay artwork. This was the last album to be released on the Now That’s What I Call Music! record label, as the brand was sold to Universal Music Group.Now That’s What I Call a Party 2018 . The first release in the series for Ireland and the UK, released on 26 January 2018.[6] The album features tracks by Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello and Clean Bandit.
