Battery replacement guide for Quip electric toothbrush
This article is based on the Quip electric toothbrush, however most similar models will use the same procedure to replace their batteries. This guide may not be perfect for any other model of brush, but it will be close enough for you to use as a guide.
Tools needed:
1 x #0 Phillips screwdriver (check for crosshead before you buy)
1 x flat head screwdriver
1 x AAA battery
Replacement batteries are available at most pharmacies, for example Superdrug.
Before you begin the spiel, turn your brush over and check if your brush is brushing whilst on its base to allow you know that there is power applied to the board. If it isn’t, then connect it to the base for a short time until it is.
A little preparation won’t hurt – take your brush off its base and pop it somewhere out of the way.
How to replace Quip battery
1. Unplug your Quip toothbrush from its charger and then remove the brush head by twisting it slightly counter-clockwise and pulling away from the handle.
2. Use a #0 Phillips screwdriver to open up the front of your handle where the brush head sits, and to take out all four screws located here. The placement of these screws is as follows:
3. Use your #0 Phillips screwdriver again to remove the clear plastic cover that sits on top of the battery, and discard it. This is not needed anymore with your new battery, so you can throw it away.
4. Use your #00 Phillips screwdriver to open up the two screws located on either side of where the battery sits. It will be the only two screws sitting freely now that the other four are already out of their sockets.
5. Remove both sides of your toothbrush handle with your #00 Phillips screwdriver, and discard them as well, because you won’t need them anymore once you have replaced your battery.
6. Remove the old battery, and discard it. Replace it with the new battery, making sure that the orientation matches up, so you don’t damage your toothbrush when trying to charge it in the future.
7. Use your #00 Phillips screwdriver again to put both sides of your toothbrush handle back on, and tighten all screws once more.
8. Put the front of your toothbrush back on, and tighten all four screws once more.
9. Re-attach the brush head to the front, and then plug it back into your wall charger or USB port. You’re all set now!
These instructions are by no means perfect, but should be enough for you to use as a guide for replacing your battery.
What are the benefits of replacing your quip battery?
As with any battery, it loses power over time. The average lifespan of most batteries can be anywhere between 6 months and 3 years. Replacing an old battery will give you the same level of power as when your toothbrush was brand new, so this is something you should consider doing if batteries are no longer holding a charge for their usual duration. This step also makes charging your toothbrush a little faster, as it does not have to work as hard to charge the new battery compared to the old one.
Replacing this specific battery for this model of brush is an easy task, as long as you use the right screw drivers and follow these steps carefully. If at any point you experience a problem, contact Quip customer service immediately. It may be that you did not use the right screwdrivers or did something wrong when replacing the battery, and they will be able to help you sort this out.
Conclusion
Replacing the battery in your Quip brush is a quick and easy task. If you find that your brush isn’t lasting as long on one charge, or it’s taking longer to recharge when plugged into the wall, consider changing out your old battery for a new one. It can make a world of difference with how well your toothbrush performs!
